It looks like the Minnesota Timberwolves may be looking to make a splash before the NBA’s trade deadline on Thursday.
According to an ESPN report, the Wolves have been in contact with the New York Knicks about a potential trade for point guard Derrick Rose.
Rose is averaging 17.7 points and 4.5 assists per game for the Knicks. He’s shooting 46 percent in 48 games, but he’s missed time because of back spasms and an ankle injury.
He is in his first season in New York. Knicks president Phil Jackson traded for him last summer, but now appears to be ready to move him. ESPN notes that several teams have expressed interest in the former MVP.
Rose has a long history with current Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau – having played for Thibs for seven seasons when both were in Chicago.
There’s no information on what Minnesota is offering the Knicks.
The NBA’s trade deadline is Thursday at 2 p.m. central.
