The $400 million mixed-use project adjacent to the new stadium project unanimously cleared the Ways and Means Committee of the Minneapolis City Council on Tuesday.
The Pioneer Press reported that it authorized negotiations between the city, developer Ryan Cos. and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority. The full council votes on the project on Friday. The project would combine office, residential and retail uses with a city park.
The Business Journal reports that while most of the meeting focused on roads and the $65 million in general obligation bonds the city would issue, the park’s name also came up. Mayor R.T. Rybak has floated the idea of calling it “The Yard.” Council member Sandy Colvin Roy called that name “dunderheaded.”
