Downtown Minneapolis will be bathed in purple ahead of the Minnesota Vikings NFC Divisional round clash with the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.
The announcement was made by Mayor Jacob Frey, clad head to toe in Vikings gear, in a video posted on his social media pages Thursday.
“In honor of our Minnesota Vikings, we’re going to be lighting our downtown up purple. All these buildings down here are going to be lit purple.
“I encourage you to celebrate along with us, and let’s go Vikes!”

We don’t know about you, but the prospect of a purple-ified (not a word) downtown conjures memories of Super Bowl LII at U.S. Bank Stadium.
During Justin Timberlake’s half-time show, digital effects were used to create the Prince symbol across downtown and surrounding the stadium.
The Vikings meanwhile have announced that it will be hosting an official watch party for the game at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake.
Already 1,000 free tickets for the event have been reserved, but the Vikings made a further 300 available on Wednesday, with guests including Daunte Culpepper expected to be in attendance.
