It would be unimaginable to think of Brian Dozier as anything but an everyday starter with the Twins, but in Los Angeles, Dozier is just another guy.
In fact, the Los Angeles Times reports that Dodgers manager Dave Roberts called Dozier shortly after he was traded from the Twins on Tuesday to let him know that he’s not going to be an everyday starter in L.A.
How’d Dozier react?
“You’re going to get 100 percent from me, whether it’s off the bench, playing every day, whatever the case may be,” Dozier said, via the Times. “I made sure he knew that. Whatever I can do to help this ball club win and get to the postseason and have a chance to win the World Series, I’m all for it.”
The Dodgers went to the World Series and lost to the Astros in seven games last season. They’re once again among the favorites to get back to the Fall Classic, and Dozier’s bat – if it ever gets going this season – could be a huge boost for the Dodgers.
Dozier has yet to go on his post-All-Star break tear, having left the Twins hitting .224 with 16 homers, 21 doubles, 53 RBI and the lowest on-base (.305) and slugging (.402) percentages since his rookie season in 2012.
The Times notes that the Dodgers plan to start Dozier against left-handed pitchers, but he’ll only get an occasional start, for now anyway, against righties. He is expected to start, however, in Wednesday’s game in which the Brewers sent right-hander Chase Anderson to the mound in L.A.
