Scott Diamond knows he can’t rush back from elbow surgery, but based on how the Twins starting rotation is faring in spring training, his arm might be needed as soon as possible.
Diamond, who had bone chips removed from his left elbow in December, pitched in his first game Monday. In two scoreless innings, he tossed 23 pitches against the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox, striking out three batters.
“Everything felt really good,” Diamond told MLB.com. “I was able to keep the ball down and get ahead of hitters, which is kind of my game plan.”
The plan for Diamond is to get his arm strength up so he can hopefully return to the Twins rotation on April 12, according to the Pioneer Press.
That’s a home game against the New York Mets.
Diamond told Fox Sports North that if everything keeps progressing this well, he’ll keep going every five days with hopes of being available to the team on that date.
