Minnesota Twins starter Cole De Vries is headed to the disabled list with a strained right forearm, according to the Star Tribune.
He was due to start Sunday in Baltimore. De Vries left last Friday’s spring training game in Fort Myers early, complaining about tightness in his forearm.
De Vries, who went 3-0 with a 0.53 earned-run average in seven spring outings, was optimistic as late as Thursday that he would be ready to take the mound Sunday.
“I’m planning right now on starting,” De Vries told Gamedaygold.com on Thursday, adding that recent treatments in the training room “really loosened things” up.
In a bullpen session today, however, De Vries couldn’t throw his curveball. No word yet who will take his place Sunday.
The Twins are in Baltimore for a three-game series, facing a team that rose from the ashes last year and made the American League playoffs. De Vries says the Twins can do the same this year.
“They did it,” he said. “Why can’t we? In professional sports, you have to have a real short memory.”
