Thursday was a busy return to the public for Gov. Mark Dayton. He made his first public appearance since a medical procedure to relieve pain in his hip.
During a press conference on Thursday Dayton said the procedure has relieved the pain in his hip. The Associated Press reports that Dayton underwent the procedure in late October and has been working from home the last two weeks.
He tore a muscle in the hip after stepping awkwardly on a set of stairs. Dayton said he is walking without pain for the first time in four months.
Dayton signaled his support of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by joining the “Ready for Hillary” group. The organization made the announcement Thursday.
Dayton who also supported Clinton in 2008, said “More than one million Americans are ready for Hillary to run – and ready to support her, if she does. Count me in.”
Dayton also joined the growing numbers of Minnesotans who are calling on the Washington Redskins to change their name.
WCCO reports that Dayton said, “I think it’s racist,” Dayton said, adding that every effort is being made not to use the team’s name during their game against the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome.
The governor said he spoke to Vikings team leaders to ensure that.
There has been growing pressure on Washington to change the Redskins name. U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum and Viking great Joey Browner planned to attend the protest at the Vikings and Redskins game.
Friday will be another busy day for the governor. He plans to head to Fergus Falls to participate in the 11th Annual Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener.
