It’s been nearly two months since the NFL Draft wrapped up, but it was only then that mock drafts and experts were flinging Notre Dame offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley’s name into the mix of possible candidates to be taken by the Vikings.
That didn’t happen, but there’s a new reason for Minnesotans to pay attention to what Stanley is doing.
The story begins at BARCS Animal Shelter in Baltimore, Maryland, where Stanley, one of his Baltimore Ravens teammates and his girlfriend visited recently in search of a new pet.
Stanley’s request: “We are looking for dog that’s been here a long time and maybe not-so-adoptable,” Stanley said, according to BARCS Facebook page.
That led Stanley to a 6-year-old named Winter, whose story made her “not-so-adoptable.”
“She was found on a vacant property, on a hot day with no electricity, or open windows. She was dehydrated and extremely frightened. Winter has a long, hanging belly, mostly likely a result of over breeding–something we see far too often at our shelter. Due to her age, her belly is not something that will ever tighten up.”
