Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham was charged with felony domestic assault on Friday in Hennepin County District Court.
The Star Tribune reports he remained in the Hennepin County jail Friday evening, bail has been set at $40,000.
Cunningham, 26, was arrested on Thursday at his home in Medina. According to the Star Tribune, the criminal complaint says the woman called 911 early Thursday to say Cunningham had tried to strangle her.
According to the Pioneer Press, the woman told police she had been dating Cunningham since last summer and living with him for eight months. The woman claimed she locked a bedroom door after Cunningham left.
The Pioneer Press reports the woman claimed Cunningham returned a short time later and kicked in the door. He allegedly grabbed her by the neck, slammed her against the wall and strangled her for between 15 to 20 seconds before leaving the home, according to the criminal complaint.
According to The Associated Press, the criminal complaint alleges the victim’s eyes were watering and she felt like she was being strangled to death.
”Victim’s eyes were watering and she felt like she was being strangled to death,” the complaint alleges.
The Star Tribune reports Cunningham returned while police were present and he was arrested. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
The Timberwolves issued a statement Thursday after his arrest saying they were aware of it and gathering more information.
Cunningham did not travel with the Wolves to Florida where they are playing back-to-back road games against Miami tonight and Orlando on Saturday. He has been Kevin Love’s primary backup at power forward and averages about six points and four rebounds a game.
