The Minnesota Twins dropped the first game of their weekend series with the Detroit Tigers 10-6, Friday night at Target Field.
The Tigers built an early 9-1 lead thanks to a seven-run third inning, as Twins’ starter Kevin Correia faltered.
He lasted just 2 1/3 innings and gave up eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits. Anthony Swarzak worked three innings and gave up two runs, while Michael Tonkin and Caleb Thielbar also made appearances in their third straight games.
Former Twins’ outfielder Torii Hunter had another big night against his former team. He finished 3-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in and two scored. Nick Castellanos also had a big night for the Tigers. He was 2-5 with a home run.
The Twins tried to battle back, with a four run sixth inning, then they added one more in the seventh, but the hole was just too much to dig out of. Jason Kubel led the way for Minnesota. He was 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Sam Fuld and Joe Mauer each added a pair of hits and Brian Dozier hit his seventh homer of the season.
It has been an April to remember for Chris Colabello and on Friday night he made it one for the record books.
