According to AI service ChatGPT, Twins legend Joe Mauer isn’t one of the ten best catchers in baseball history.
In a list published by The Game Day, Mauer didn’t crack the top 10 despite having one of the best slash lines among catchers in the history of the game.
There was no other information behind the making of the list and what stats ChatGPT used to compile it. We’re assuming Mauer’s years as a first baseman, and post bi-lateral leg weakness, played some part in his snub.
Compare the years Mauer spent primarily as a catcher to ChatGPT’s list and it makes quite clear that Mauer was as good with a bat in his hands as any of the ten who made the list.

Mauer’s home run total is paltry compared to the others but all of his other numbers stack up with the best catchers in MLB history.
ChatGPT can’t be trusted for sports info
The Mauer thing is up for discussion but what we do know for certain is that ChatGPT isn’t very intelligent when it comes to digging up accurate sports information. That’s better said as ChatGPT can’t be trusted for anything sports-wise after September 2021.
Last week, we asked ChatGPT for Kirk Cousins’s stats in 2022. Look at this debacle of an answer…

We tried the same question this week and ChatGPT is now saying it can’t access any information about Kirk Cousins beyond September 2021.

Be careful what you believe when using AI, especially ChatGPT.
