Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway is expected to play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins after his father passed away due to complications with Leukemia, reports note.
KFAN says Chad Greenway will play Sunday with a “heavy heart” in honor of his father, Alan Greenway, who died Friday evening. He was 56.
Alan Greenway had battled Leukemia for more than two years, the Pioneer Press notes. His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday morning, according to the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Chad Greenway was absent at Friday’s practice for personal reasons. He had gone home to Mount Vernon, South Dakota, to be with his father, reports note.
The linebacker was named the Vikings’ Community Man of the Year for 2014. He’s known for his work at various organizations throughout Minnesota and for founding the Lead the Way Foundation, which helps children who are seriously ill and physically challenged in the metro area, ESPN notes.
