The season has come to an end for Byung Ho Park.
The Twins announced that Park will undergo season-ending surgery to his right wrist Thursday. It will end what has been a disappointing season for the Twins’ biggest offseason splash in free agency last year.
Minnesota signed Park out of South Korea hoping that he would provide the lineup with some needed pop after he hit more than 100 home runs in the Korean Baseball Organization over the previous two seasons.
But it didn’t quite work out that way. Park finished hitting just .191 with 12 home runs and 24 RBIs in 62 games with the Twins.
He was marginally better after he was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on July 1, where he hit .224 with 10 home runs and 19 RBIs in 31 games with the Red Wings.
But Park was placed on the disabled list at Triple A last week after dealing with what was believed to be tendinitis in the wrist – which was hindering his ability to hit.

Park told 1500 ESPN through his interpreter that the pain got worse after he was sent to Rochester.
Park added that he knows he will need to continue to work on his timing if he wants to help the Twins next season.
