Buxton returning to Twins with his bat still on fire

Byron Buxton picked up where he left off in his return from the disabled list over the weekend. 

In three rehab games at Triple-A Rochester, Buxton homered on the first pitch he saw and proceeded to rack up five hits, two homers and three RBI over the weekend.

Buxton was hitting .387 in July before a groin/hamstring injury put him on the 10-day disabled list. He missed additional time because of migraine headaches. 

Manager Paul Molitor said Sunday that Buxton is expected to rejoin the Twins when they open a two-game series in San Diego on Tuesday. Buxton is hitting .218 with five homers and 16 RBI in 84 games with the Twins this season. 

Zack Granite has played pretty well in place of Buxton, but Aaron Gleeman of Baseball Prospectus added some level-headedness to the conversation on Sunday.

Zack Granite, who's very fast, has now grounded into three double plays in 15 career games. Byron Buxton has four double plays in 222 games.
