One of the top prospects in all of baseball is on his way back from a thumb injury that caused him to miss more than a month of the season.
Twins manager Paul Molitor told reporters Byron Buxton will head for Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

It will be the center fielder’s first stop in Rochester. The Twins called him up directly from Double-A Chattanooga in mid-June.
“He’s doing well,” said Molitor. “I don’t want to say he’s 100 percent, but he’s doing everything.”
According to the Pioneer Press, the tentative plan is to have Buxton begin his rehab assignment with the Rochester Red Wings Friday, when they play in Charlotte, North Carolina. He’ll then stay with the club as it continues on to Buffalo next week.
Buxton is still ranked as the top prospect in all of baseball by MLB.com, although he struggled at the plate with the Twins prior to the thumb injury. Buxton hit just .189 (7-for-37) in 11 games prior to the injury.
MLB.com Twins blogger Rhett Bollinger reports Buxton will likely need at least a week to 10 days before he’s activated from the disabled list.
