Byron Buxton had a whirlwind afternoon in center field.
The speedy outfielder misplayed a ball in the first inning and it resulted in a double for Oakland’s Kris Davis. He then crashed into the bullpen door more than 400 feet from home plate trying to catch a ball smashed by Steven Vogt. He hit the door so hard that it flew open.
A few innings later he crashed hard into the wall making a running catch on a well hit ball by Matt Joyce.
On the video replay, it looks like Buxton’s head whips back, forceful enough to throw his hat off his head. The Twins say Buxton passed an initial concussion test but he was removed from the game for precautionary reasons.
Hopefully Buxton wont miss any time, the former first-round pick has been heating up at the plate lately.
Over his last nine games, Buxton is hitting .296 with an OPS of .923 and he’s also been patient at the plate, drawing seven walks during that span.
