Four years after he retired from the NFL after two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, soon-to-be Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre told Sports Illustrated that he believes he could still play in the NFL today.
Favre sports a Packers jersey on the cover of SI’s “Where are They Now?” issue, telling the magazine it’s the first time he has worn the dark green since Jan. 20, 2008, when his last pass as a Packer was intercepted in an overtime loss to New York in the NFC championship game.
The much grayer, now grandfather of two, tells the magazine that he can still make all the throws he used to make.

He still holds several NFL records, including for wins as a starter, completions, attempts, yards, times sacked and most passes intercepted.
Favre will return to Green Bay and Lambeau Field when his No. 4 is retired on July 18. His number and name will be etched in Packers lore when it goes up on to the facade of the stadium on Thanksgiving night when the Packers play the Chicago Bears.
According to ESPN, it will be the first time he returns to Lambeau Field since he played for the Vikings in 2009 and 2010.
In the interview, Favre said that had he taken his time in deciding if he wanted to return to Green Bay, he would have eventually chosen to play and the whole drama that caused him to leave the Packers could have been avoided.
But as Pro Football Talk notes, Green Bay was pushing Favre for the quick decision, maybe knowing Favre would choose retirement, thus starting the Aaron Rodgers era.
