The Minnesota Vikings will only play seven regular-season home games at Mall of America Field next year. The Pioneer Press reports Lester Bagley, Vikings vice president of public affairs and stadium development, has confirmed the Purple will play a home game at London’s historic Wembley Stadium next September. The opponent and date is expected to be announced later this week.
The Vikings are considered ideal candidates for the league’s International Series because they have a flexible lease at the Metrodome and the team’s new stadium in downtown Minneapolis won’t be ready until 2016. The Vikings last played abroad 18 years ago.
The Jacksonville Jaguars will also host the San Francisco 49ers at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, the NFL announced last week.
