A signed Twins baseball, with the aid of a weather balloon, will be launched into the stratosphere before Sunday’s game between the Twins and Chicago White Sox at Target Field, reports the Star Tribune.
Engineering students from the University of Minnesota are behind the experiment, which is being conducted with help of Minnesota native and former astronaut Bob Cabana.
Cabana, a graduate of Minneapolis Washburn High School, will also speak at his alma mater Monday and at Farnsworth Aerospace Magnet School in St. Paul Tuesday, WCCO-TV reports.
The Minnesota native is the 10th Center Director of NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. According to his NASA bio, Cabana manages a team of approximately 8,600 civil service and contractor employees.
Cabana’s visit is being organized by AirSpace Minnesota, a nonprofit group that recognizes the state’s achievements in aerospace and aviation.
