Will the Twins add or subtract this summer?
The answer to that question largely depends on how the Twins fare in the next several weeks as the July 31 trading dealing approaches.
Assistant General Manager Rob Antony is on record, via the Star Tribune, saying the next month will “dictate that.”
“You’d be really hard-pressed to give up on the season,” he said, after the Twins crept to three games under .500 (33-36) following a three-game sweep of Chicago.
Antony says while no names are being mentioned yet, other teams are calling — trying to figure out who will be having fire sales.
As for the Twins’ schedule, it’s Cleveland, Miami and Kansas City in the near future. After that, and up until the All-Star break, it gets much tougher with a gauntlet of A.L. East teams facing Minnesota: New York (seven games), Toronto (three games) and Tampa Bay (three games).
If the Twins can hang around, the second half of July offers a softer schedule, with Cleveland, Los Angeles, Seattle and Kansas City. August, right now, looks extremely favorable, with three-game series against Detroit and Texas the primary stumbling blocks.
All that said, it’s also pointed out that the Twins are 10-2 against the White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers this year … and 23-34 against everybody else.
