After smashing Triple-A pitching this summer the Minnesota Twins have made outfielder Andrew Stevenson a September call-up.
The 29-year-old led the Saints with 132 hits, 91 runs and 44 stolen bases (all franchise records) while slashing .317/.394/.522 with 16 homers, 23 doubles and seven triples. He did all of that in just 106 games
Congrats to @astevenson6 on being called up to the #MNTwins. Set single-season franchise records for hits (132), runs (91), total bases (217), & stolen bases (44), and tied for 1st in triples (7). He was slashing .317/.394/.522 with 23 doubles and 16 home runs. Amazing season pic.twitter.com/2A4WWth77H

Stevenson has five years of experience in the big leagues, having played for the Washington Nationals 2017 to 2021. In those five seasons he totaled 449 plate appearances and slashed .248/.322/.365 with eight homers, 18 doubles and 49 RBI. He struck out 126 times in 395 official at-bats, which equates to striking out 31.9% of the time.
His numbers this season with the Saints are similar to what he did in 2021 when he played at Double-A and Triple-A with the Nationals. He wound up with 37 at-bats in 30 games as a bench player fro the Nationals in 2019 and produced when called upon, slashing .367/.486/.467. It wasn’t much, but he went 11 for 30 with one double, one triple and zero RBI.
MLB rosters expanded from 26 to 28 players on Sept. 1, though no team can carry more than 14 pitchers at a time. Stevenson joins Joey Gallo, Max Kepler, Jordan Luplow, Michael A. Taylor and Matt Wallner as outfielders on the active roster, though someone will likely have to go when Byron Buxton is activated from the injured list in the near future.
Alex Kirilloff is also nearing his return from injury, at which point another outfielder’s job could be in danger since the Twins don’t seem likely to demote or release any of the current infielders (Jorge Polanco, Eddy Juilen, Royce Lewis, Donovan Solano, Kyle Farmer and Carlos Correa).
The Twins also promoted right-handed Brent Headrick to become the 14th pitcher on the roster. In addition, third baseman Jose Miranda was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
