Race Thompson will play college basketball at Indiana University
The 6’8” lefty from Robbinsdale Armstrong announced Sunday his plans to join head coach Archie Miller with the Hoosiers, picking IU over the likes of the Gophers, Baylor, Michigan, Iowa State, and others.
“Blessed and excited to announce my commitment to further my education and basketball career at Indiana University,” he tweeted. “Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way.”
Thompson is the son of ex-Gophers star running back Darrell Thompson. He’s a 4-star recruit by 247 Sports and the third best recruit from Minnesota in the Class of 2018 behind Apple Valley’s Tre Jones and Cretin-Derham Hall’s Daniel Oturu. Jones is still undecided and Oturu picked the Gophers.
According to the Indy Star, Thompson plans to reclassify to the Class of 2017 and enroll at Indiana as a redshirt freshman this fall.
The next Minnesota recruit to announce college plans is Orono power forward Jarvis Thomas, whom the Star Tribune says is leaning heavily towards picking the Gophers. Thomas is also a 4-star recruit.
