Some of the biggest names in the NFL over the last decade will be looking for a new home when NFL free agency opens next week.
The Vikings informed Adrian Peterson they will not be picking up his option for 2017 – meaning for the first time in his career Peterson will become a free agent.
While all kinds of reports about Peterson’s potential landing spots have surfaced, none are likely to come close to the $18 million he was scheduled to receive from the Vikings next season.
Here is a list of some of the other big names, who like Peterson will find themselves on the free agent market.
CB Darrelle Revis – New York Jets
“Revis Island” used to be known as a place where the best receivers weren’t able to get open. Now, the Island is looking for a new place to inhibit.
The Jets informed Revis of his impending release Tuesday. He was the No. 14 selection of the 2007 NFL Draft and had 25 interceptions and 112 passes defensed in eight seasons in New York.
After a brief stop in Tampa Bay in 2013 and another in New England in 2014, Revis returned to the Jets in 2015 and played in 29 games over his final two seasons.
WR DeSean Jackson – Washington
At age 30, Jackson is still one of the most dangerous wide receivers in the game. Jackson led the NFL with 17.9 yards per catch.
Jackson finished last season with 56 catches for 1,005 yards and four touchdowns. He has been over 1,000 yards five times since his rookie season in 2008.
NFL.com notes that Jackson is expected to draw interest from the Buccaneers, the Rams and Eagles.
RB Jamaal Charles – Kansas City
Like Adrian Peterson, Kansas City’s Jamaal Charles used to be one of the most dominant running backs in the game.
However, he’s continued to battle knee injuries over the last two seasons limiting to 404 yards rushing on 83 carries over those two seasons.
At age 30, Charles will have to be willing to accept a one-year, incentive-laden contract if he wants to find a new home in the NFL.
QB Tony Romo – Dallas
There isn’t a player in the NFL who has had his injury issues more documented than Dallas quarterback Tony Romo. While the Cowboys haven’t officially made a determination on Romo’s future with the team it seems inevitable.
In fact, there are some reports that Dallas is already looking at options for a backup quarterback next season.

The Bleacher Report notes that Denver is interested if Romo is willing to take a pay cut.
