If the Vikings want to take wide receiver Laquon Treadwell with the 23rd pick in the NFL Draft they might have to battle through some nervous times because there appear to be seven teams interested in Treadwell.
Treadwell, the All-American from Ole Miss, told Pro Football Talk that he’s visited seven teams: Browns, Cowboys, 49ers, Giants, Jets, Bears, and Vikings.
Treadwell is essentially a unanimous pick as a top 25 player in the draft, but where he falls in that top 25 is interesting. Check out where the following experts rank him:
- CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler: 6th
- ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.: 17th
- NFL Network’s Mike Mayock: 23rd
For a second, let’s just assume Treadwell is Minnesota’s top choice at wide receiver: Which of the six teams he visited are true threats to take him?
The Cowboys?
They pick fourth overall and reports continue to link owner Jerry Jones to Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott or defensive end Joey Bosa.
The Browns?
They pick 8th, and a lot of mock drafts have them upgrading their offensive line or trying to solve their perennial quarterback issues with Memphis’ Paxton Lynch.
The 49ers?
They pick 7th and are desperate for help at a number of positions, but maybe none greater than defensive end.
The Giants?
They pick 10th and Peter King says they have a major need at linebacker. Plus, Odell Beckham Jr. is already Eli Manning’s primary target.
The Bears?
They pick 11th and used a first-round pick on receiver Kevin White last year, and all mocks point to them taking anything but a receiver.
The Jets?
They pick 20th and have Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker catching passes, plus they have to find a replacement after the surprise retirement of left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson.
If the draft is as simple as following which teams brought Treadwell in for a visit – which it isn’t – then Minnesota might be not be sweating all that much.
Obviously, there’s also the chance that another team trades up to get Treadwell or he could simply go to a team that didn’t bring him in for a visit.
