High-profile recruits yet to commit will likely push the Gophers back down the rankings in due time, but after receiving four new commitments over the weekend the Gopher football team has a top 20 recruiting class for 2019.
According to 247 Sports, Minnesota has the 19th-best 2019 recruiting class. Only three Big Ten teams are ahead of the Gophers: Penn State (16), Michigan (14) and Ohio State (6).
The five new commitments:
- James Gordon IV, outside linebacker from Plant City, Florida.
- Donald Willis, linebacker from Cleveland, Ohio.
- DeAngelo Griffin, defensive tackle from Cordele, Georgia.
- T.J. Robinson, safety from Riverview, Florida.
- Solomon Brown, cornerback from Largo, Florida.
All five are three-star recruits, per 247 Sports, and all five visited the University of Minnesota on Friday and committed on Sunday.

Robinson is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound safety who picked Minnesota over offers from the likes of Louisville, South Florida, Cincinnati and Iowa State.
Willis and Gordon are ranked 54th and 71st among outside linebackers in the Class of 291, respectively. Willis had offers from West Virginia, Purdue, Illinois, Boston College and a bunch of other schools while the top football programs offering Gordon were North Carolina and Missouri.
Griffin, a 295-pound interior defensive lineman, chose the Gophers over North Carolina and Arkansas, among others.
Brown is a 5-foot-11 cornerback who also received offers from Iowa, Indiana and Rutgers.
