P.J. Fleck continues to dominate the recruiting trail in his home state of Illinois, landing his third top 10 player from the Land of Lincoln with four-star defensive end Jason Bargy committing on Wednesday night.
247 Sports rates Bargy, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound junior from Momence High School (just south of Chicago), as the second-best recruit from Illinois in the Class of 2019.
Kyle Goblirsch of 247 Sports put it best, saying Bargy is the highest rated defensive end recruit the Gophers have landed in the internet era.
Today’s top stories:
– It took Whalen just over three weeks to land first big recruit
–Adrian Peterson’s 7-mile running routine is extremely difficult
Bargy picked the Gophers over offers from Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Purdue, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa State and Michigan State.

He’s also the third top 10 player in Illinois to commit to the Gophers, joining three-star cornerback Tyler Nubin and three-star offensive tackle J.J. Guedett, also members of the 2019 graduating class.
Fleck’s Gophers also have Illinois’ sixth-rated player in this year’s class, defensive tackle Elijah Teague, joining the team in the fall.
Minnesota’s 2018 recruiting class is ranked 37th nationally and has a trio of four-star recruits. Bargy is the lone four-star recruit thus far in the 2019 class, which ranks 25th nationally, per 247 Sports.
