The MLB All-Star Futures Game will have a Minnesota flavor to it this year as Max Meyer, Josh Winder and LaTroy Hawkins will all participate in the annual showcase.
Meyer is one of the headliners for this year’s game as the former Gopher is the 20th overall prospect on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list. The Woodbury native went 10-7 with a 2.13 ERA in two seasons at Minnesota before being selected by the Miami Marlins with the third overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Meyer’s professional career has gotten off to a hot start with a 4-1 record and 1.84 ERA at Double-A Pensacola this season.
While Meyer will be representing the state of Minnesota, the Minnesota Twins will also have a presence including top prospect Josh Winder.
Winder was a seventh-round pick for the Twins in 2018 MLB Draft and has gotten off to an impressive start in the Twins system. After going 7-2 with a 2.65 ERA at Low-A Cedar Rapids in 2019, Winder has advanced to Double-A Wichita this season, where he’s posted a 3-0 record and 1.98 ERA in 10 starts.
The Twins will also be represented in the dugout as LaTroy Hawkins will manage the American League team. Hawkins spent nine seasons with the Twins as part of a 21-year MLB career that included three seasons with the Colorado Rockies, who will host this year’s All-Star festivities.
Hawkins will manage against National League manager and Rockies legend Vinny Castilla for the game, which will be played on July 11 in Denver, Colo.
