Ten finalists for the nation’s top men’s college basketball point guard award include a trio of Minnesota connections, including Gophers leading scorer Marcus Carr.
Carr, former Champlin Park High School standout McKinley Wright IV and former Minnehaha Academy (Minneapolis) 5-star recruit Jalen Suggs, are among the 10 point guards named finalists for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year award.

Wright, a senior at Colorado, is averaging 14.8 points, 5.8 assists and 4.7 rebounds this season. He’s led the Buffaloes to a 12-4 record, good for third place in the Pac 12 and likely on the way to an NCAA tournament birth. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi currently projects Colorado as a 6 seed in the tournament.
Lunardi has the Gophers projected as a 5 seed, and that wouldn’t be possible without the star play of Carr, who leads Minnesota with 20.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. He’s been key in leading the Gophers to wins over ranked Big Ten foes Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa and Michigan, not to mention a Saint Louis team that CBS Sports projects as a 5 seed in the tournament.
Minnesota dropped from No. 17 to No. 21 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.
Suggs is one of many stars on the undefeated, No. 1-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs. He’s averaging 13.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and a team-leading 4.9 assists and is projected by most to be a top-five pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
