There is quarterback news going into Gopher football’s clash with Michigan tomorrow at 2:30.
That news has nothing to do with Philip Nelson or Mitch Leidner.
Third-string freshman signal-caller Chris Streveler is out with a hand injury, leaving the Gophers with just two healthy quarterbacks going into The Big House.
Who will start between the two is not clear at the moment, with the Gophers’ depth chart listing Philip Nelson OR Mitch Leidner as the starter.
Running back sees no changes either, with David Cobb OR Rodrick Williams in the backfield next to Nelson OR Leidner, with Donnell Kirkwood serving as the backup tailback.
On the defensive side of the ball, defensive backs Derrick Wells (shoulder) and Brock Vereen (knee) are both expected to start after sustaining injuries in last week’s loss to Iowa.
Other roster news has head coach Jerry Kill likely redshirting running back Berkley Edwards, stating that the depth at running back would make it hard for Edwards to get touches.
Edwards has also battled a high ankle sprain for the entire non-conference season, not helping his cause to see reps in the backfield.
Edwards was a standout at Chelsea High School in Michigan, and his father and brother played football for the Wolverines, but he is not listed on the depth chart or injury report, and his homecoming will have to wait.
The Gophers are 20-point underdogs, and haven’t beaten Michigan their last five attempts.
