Fifteen more positive COVID-19 tests brings the Gopher football program’s total to 40 during the current outbreak that prompted the cancellation of Saturday’s scheduled border battle against Big Ten rival Wisconsin.
The newest 15 positive cases include nine student-athletes and six staff members. Of the 40 total cases, there have been 20 players and 20 staff members to test positive since Nov. 19.
All football-related activities remain paused until the outbreak gets under control, and the status of Minnesota’s Dec. 5 game at TCF Bank Stadium against 8th-ranked Northwestern has not been decided.
The outbreak led to star wide receiver Rashod Bateman opting out of the rest of the season to ensure his health. The 2019 Big Ten receiver of the year is now focusing on the 2021 NFL Draft.
