It was a moment that was decades in the making.
Before the Minnesota Twins’ big win Wednesday, their most loyal fan threw a ceremonial first pitch.
Louise McKleevan, who turns 101 on Oct. 1, has dreamed of “standing on the mound, throwing the first pitch at a professional baseball game” since she was a little girl, according to a press release.
To prepare for her time on the field, the grandmother to 14 – and great-grandmother to 11 – has been doing morning arm exercises.
“I can’t imagine a better thing for an ordinary woman like myself,” McKleevan adds.
The diehard Twins fan says it’s “the best birthday present [she] could ask for.”
McKleevan’s wish was fulfilled through a partnership between Brookdale Senior Living Community and Wish of a Lifetime, a nonprofit organization that makes dreams come true for older adults.
